A Hong Kong court has issued an arrest warrant for a British tourist accused of skipping bail after being charged with vandalising self-service check-in machines at the city’s airport earlier this year.

Youcef Bennoui, 35, did not show up at West Kowloon Court on Monday to face charges of criminal damage and possession of a Part 1 poison linked to an incident he allegedly caused at Hong Kong International Airport in the early hours of February 16.

Prosecutors informed the court that Bennoui, who described himself as unemployed, had departed Hong Kong.

Principal Magistrate Don So Man-lung postponed a decision on whether to revoke the defendant’s HK$5,000 (US$638) bail.

The British national was taken into custody after a widely shared video showed him knocking over several self-check-in kiosks and repeatedly striking them with a stanchion.
