Hong Kong authorities announced on Monday morning that Xia Baolong, director of the Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office, would be making a two-day trip to the city.
"[Xia will] examine how Hong Kong aligns with the national 15th five-year plan and the progress of the Northern Metropolis," the government stated, referencing the large-scale initiative to transform 30,000 hectares (74,131 acres) of land into an economic driver and residential center.
The senior official's visit comes just one day after the launch of a two-month public consultation on the Hong Kong government's inaugural five-year plan, which seeks to better integrate the city with national development.
"The Hetao Shenzhen-Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Zone in Lok Ma Chau will be among his destinations," a source revealed, noting that Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu would accompany Xia.
