Amber rainstorm warning issued Sunday night; unsettled conditions to continue for several more days, forecaster says

The Hong Kong Observatory issued an amber rainstorm warning on Sunday evening and indicated that unstable weather was anticipated to linger over the coming days.

The warning came into effect at 9.40pm, indicating that more than 30mm (1.2 inches) of rain had already fallen or was forecast to fall across the city in a single hour.

The alert further signals that heavy downpours are expected to persist.

According to the Observatory, an active southwest monsoon combined with a low-pressure trough will keep weather conditions unsettled in the days ahead.

Showers are forecast to be especially intense through Tuesday, heightening the likelihood of flooding in certain areas.

The forecaster advised the public to take preventive measures against potential flooding, such as staying away from low-lying zones and securing outdoor belongings.
