Landlords may be required to upgrade or repurpose commercial properties to better suit artificial intelligence technology, experts have suggested.

“If you want to bring buildings up to an appropriate standard in a world of AI, going forward there should be energy resilience, energy supply, connectivity and technological infrastructure,” he stated.

“All of those things are an additional layer to get those buildings to the right standard.”

By 2030, nearly two-thirds of private offices in Hong Kong will be more than 30 years old, based on official data cited by Knight Frank.

A separate estimate from JLL, a global property services and investment management firm, released last year, indicated that roughly one-fifth of Hong Kong’s older buildings were at risk of becoming obsolete, experiencing decreases in both value and efficiency.
