The head of Astana’s special financial zone has stated that agreements signed with Hong Kong during John Lee’s visit represent an “important milestone” for collaboration.

“These agreements focus on establishing new avenues for capital, expertise, innovation, and investment prospects to flow more seamlessly between Hong Kong, Kazakhstan, and the broader Central Asian region, building a foundation for more robust long-term partnership and sustainable economic development.”

The AIFC, a special financial zone created in 2018, operates under common law and international arbitration, positioning itself as a conduit for Chinese investment aiming to access Central Asian and Eurasian markets.
