24-year-old woman terminated by Hospital Authority for misconduct could face imprisonment of up to five years for allegedly accessing patient data without authorization.
A Hong Kong intern doctor detained on suspicion of illegally accessing patient records has been granted bail following roughly 21 hours in custody, and has reportedly been accompanied back to her previous workplace to assist with evidence gathering.
A source informed the South China Morning Post that the 24-year-old suspect, identified by the surname Lai, was released from Cheung Sha Wan Police Station at approximately 4:30pm on Saturday.
She was taken into custody around 7pm on Friday under suspicion of accessing a computer with dishonest intent.
A police spokesperson confirmed that the suspect has been released on bail and is required to report back to authorities in early July.
Lai was reportedly brought back to Caritas Medical Centre, where she previously worked, at noon on Saturday. The suspect was observed wearing casual clothes and a face mask.
